I composed Supplication for the Italian baritone Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari (LEF). Supplication is a three-song cycle exploring the interweave of space and breadth and time, with slow cadences and minimal harmonic movement. I'll premiere Supplication at Dunk! Fest on May 11th for the first time ever. ... See MoreSee Less

A stunning work! šŸ–¤

I love this Jo!

I listen to your music that takes me away; later, after coming out of the trance, the mind works on what happened. Now I first read and am warned before listening to Supplication; I am very curiousšŸ«¢šŸ„°. P.S. This absolute premiere takes place on a very sad day for me; another year is added to the pile I'm carrying behind me.šŸ˜

A hug from Verona dear Jo ā¤ļø

Jo Quail Powerful poetic words and breathtaking video to join forces with the Magical Music of Supplication ! šŸŽ»šŸ–¤X

Itā€™s Roadburn Festival weekend and one of my favorite memories is linked to this amazing festival: The premiere of The Cartographer in 2022 conducted by Jos Pijnappel. Jos is a Maestro in the truest sense; he is a conductor, arranger, musical director, violin and viola player, bass player, and much more. Heā€™s also someone Iā€™m privileged to have known for over 30 years, and weā€™ve shared many musical adventures over time. Jos is the only person I know who is brave enough to bring in a full ensemble on a 13/8 click with no pre-roll, working with live loops, in front of 4000 metal fans, and ace this challenge! If you were with us for the premiere of The Cartographer at Roadburn youā€™ll perhaps remember this electric moment in the finale, Iā€™ll never forget it. Jos has conducted many ensemble performances of mine, including conducting my audience for South West Night at St Leonardā€™s back in 2011, creating an unforgettable rendition of this track from Caldera. Heā€™s also conducted the wonderful orchestra and choir of Cappella Gedanensis in Poland premiering This Path With Grace, a work I composed for this ensemble, and he was of course the man with the baton for Roadburn 2022, conducting the premiere of The Cartographer. I look forward to sharing the stage with him at Dunk!festival on May 11th! ... See MoreSee Less

ā€˜Causleenā€™s Wheelā€™ is the third track on my album Exsolve (2017), written for Lucie Dehli, that Iā€™ll premiere at Dunk!festival. Lucie is a force of nature; composer, singer, teacher, artist, and wise woman, and Iā€™ve had the privilege of working with Lucie over many years. We have collaborated on several projects and performances including entirely improvised concerts, and we have also been a guest for each other on many occasions. When I create a canvas with Lucie in mind I know only the energy of what I want to create, and the particular aspect of her persona that I want to celebrate. ā€˜Causleenā€™s Wheelā€™ was extraordinary to write; the music flowed from one take after another and as I heard the sound grow through the multiple interweaving lines it felt as though it stretched and breathed something in to shape, something strange yet utterly familiar as well. What Lucie then found and connected with in this music lifted it to realms far beyond my imagination.

ā€˜Causleenā€™s Wheelā€™ is the song of The Spinner. Her wheel spins and the mountains dance, divine and eternal in their movement, and the standing stones sway to this hidden pulse, and the evening star lights the sky šŸŒ€

Jo Quail Jo, my soul sister, yes, our friendship is a long story, a bond that transcends years for love has the ability to dissolve time. A friendship that feels like a coffee on the terrace of my apartment, a blackberry picking on 'Mystery Lane', and soon the sharing of music in this circumstance that you have opened before me like a fairy cave. How can I thank you? By giving you and all the magnificent team you involved in this magic moment, the best of myself. By honoring the privilege of playing with you, a musician, a woman, an exceptional being that this world, and very selfishly, my world, is lucky to welcome in this earthly life, and most certainly in a much more mysterious dimension. Your priestess or your spinner, whoever you want me to be with all my heart xxxxxx

This is amazing..

Absolutely wonderfully written! I can’t agree more knowing Lucie too, and loving most that she’s such an incredible human which I am sure so are you Jo Quail! Fabulous women!

Two amazing artists with so much creative energy. I am proud and honoured to call you both friends . Awesome times . C.x

On the 11th of May I will be performing a very special concert for Dunk!festival and Iā€™m honoured to be joined by the Wilmink Project Orchestra to present this program. We have two premieres for you. Weā€™ll be performing ā€˜Supplicationā€™ with Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, and also ā€˜Causleenā€™s Wheelā€™ from Exsolve with Lucie Dehli. Weā€™ll be joined in addition by Tom Atherton on percussion, if youā€™ve never seen or heard a water phone then you need to come to our concert! Jos Pijnappel who you know from ā€˜The Cartographerā€™ will be conducting us and we also have a premier, first ever screening of a stunning animation created by Dutch artist Daniel Van Nes to accompany Supplication. Thereā€™s lots to tell you about Iā€™ll be making individual posts to introduce all my guest artists and orchestra. I will probably share some of my orchestration processes and decisions, so you get pretty robust kind of view of the whole project. Iā€™m so thankful to Dunk! Festival for giving us a stage literally to perform this concert for you. I really look forward to chatting with you afterwards šŸ–¤ ... See MoreSee Less

@infernofestivalnorway, thank you for such a warm welcome. It was a privilege to travel to Oslo to play for you, and to be part of such a thrilling, hugely impressive line up too! You were an AMAZING audience! Oh my goodness. Thank you with my whole heart.

I had a wonderful time, I caught @maddermortemofficialā€™s amazing concert, loved seeing @saormusic, of course Borgnagar too, and many more moments I shall treasure forever - Iā€™m sure you have sets you want to recommend to us so please let us know artists you particularly enjoyed too.

Thank you for all the empowering and beautiful things you told me about my concert, Iā€™m so glad to know that it is intensity of performance and intention of composer that moves so many of you (yes, thatā€™s my trademark quote, but itā€™s what I believe makes music ā€˜heavyā€™), we are on the same path and Iā€™m lifted by your company.

Letā€™s see what magic happens next, and I look forward to sharing my new music with you very soon!

Here are a few photographs from the concert, thank you very much @infernofestivalnorway - we donā€™t have the actual name of your photographer so perhaps someone could let us all know please?

Safe travels home to all, and see you again soon,

Love Jo x
